The CAP converts word structure (number of data bits, parity, and stop bits), character sets (ASCII, EBCDIC, Baudot, transcode, and ticker tape), and flow control (DTR/CTS, X-ON/X-OFF, ENQ/ACK) bidirectionally between half- and/or full-duplex modes and speeds from 45.5 bps to 38.4 kbps. The flow-control buffer is 32 KB, enabling even slow machines to talk to fast ones.
